Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings

Its Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings at Mohali. Chennai began their campaign in a fine style by beating KKR by six wickets at Chennai. On the other hand Kings XI Punjab lost to Sahara Pune Warriors in their match by 7 wickets.

So first match of IPL 2011 season for both the teams brought mixed fortunes, Punjab will be happy that they are playing Chennai at their home ground and will definetly try to take advantage of home support.

Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab lost their first match which was against Pune Warriors by 7 wickets with nearly seven overs remaining. Kings XI Punjab scored 112/8 in their 20 overs, chasing this down Sahara Pune Warriors reached the target with the scoreline at 113/3.

Adam Gilchrist's side will be looking to have a win under their belt and definitely need improvements in all areas of the field. Gilchrist himself who has been out of competitive cricket for quite some while needs to get some runs under his belt. May be spend some time on the crease rather than just blaze away at the start.

They need a good opening start for their newly formed middle order to pile up some runs, otherwise they might just fold up like they did against Pune Warriors (at one point Punjab were at 9/4 in first four overs)

Kings XI Punjab BIO:

Many fans were surprised when Preity Zinta and co did not retain Yuvraj Singh in their squad, although this happened before the World Cup. But after Yuvraj's success in the World Cup, Kings XI punjab must be pretty annoyed that they did not retain their valuable player.

But if not Yuvraj and who better to lead than the dashing Australian Adam Gilchrist. Adam Gilchrist was the one who captained Deccan Chargers and took them to the IPL 2009 trophy but had a contrasting season in 2010 with a batting average of 18.06.

As with Pune Warriors, Kings XI Punjab also have a good batting line up. In Gilchrist they have a explosive opener and partnering him up-front will be Shaun Marsh who had an excellent inaugural IPL season.

Middle order will see the likes of David Hussey and Abhishek Nayar, both having a good strike rate in the T20 format. Dinesh Karthik who is also a decent bet with the bat will look to keep gloves behind the stumps.

In bowling department Punjab have Ryan Harris and Praveen Kumar to open the bowling and his spinning options rest on Piyush Chawla who did not have good outing in the ICC World Cup 2011.

So many changes have taken place in the Kings XI Punjab dressing room, but with a leader like Adam Gilchrist to head them they are a good outfit to challenge any sort of opposition thrown at them, will give 5/10 for Kings XI Punjab this time around after their performance against Sahara Pune Warriors.
Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings won their first match which was against Kolkata Knight Riders by 2 runs. Chennai Super Kings scored 153/4 in their 20 overs, chasing this down Kolkata Knight Riders got very close to the target but ended the match at 151/7 in their 20 overs.

Chennai have a very good leader under Dhoni and they have an able squad to back his captaincy. Anirudha Srikkanth was the man of the match against KKR showed good character on the field with his batting display.

With Morkel they have got a good final depth over bowler who not only will restrict the opposition but will take crucial wickets as well as he did against KKR. There might be some changes in the bowling lineup considering the fact that the pitch at Punjab assists fast bowlers more than spinners so one of the spinners might drop to the bench.

Chennai Super Kings BIO:

Of all the teams in the IPL 2011 version, its Dhoni's boys who form the same bunch of players as they had in 2010 with few additions and subtractions. Many other franchises have seen total revamp in their sides mostly due to addition of two new franchises Kochi Tuskers and Pune Warriors.

Chennai Super Kings would mostly have the squad same as that of 2010, but with Michael Hussey not featuring  due to International commitment (Australia's tour of Bangladesh) it gives a chance for some local players like Anirudh Srikanth who can open the innings with Murali Vijay who had a fantastic IPL 2010 season with Chennai Super Kings being in the top 5 run getter list of IPL 2010.

Chennai Super Kings have a good batting line up suited for the T20 version with Murali Vijay as the calm stroking player followed by Badrinath who also has succeeded well on the 2010 version of IPL. Then they have Suresh Raina and Dhoni who can change the game around and take Chennai Super Kings to a massive score.

With the absence of Hussey, a slot for another international player beckons and Chennai have some new additions in all rounder slot who can fill his shoes. Albie Morkel will definitely play in the side as the front line bowler and he would soon be joined by Scott Styris and Faf Du Plessis who will fill up the all rounder slots.

Chennai Super Kings have strengthened their bowling line up with the introduction of fast pace bowlers in the form of New Zealand's Tim Southee and Sri Lanka's Nuwan Kulasekara. Tim Southee had an excellent World Cup as he picked up 18 wickets third best in the World Cup and helped New Zealand reach the semi finals of the World Cup 2011.
Very few changes have taken place in the Chennai Super Kings dressing room and with a leader like Dhoni to head them, they are a good outfit to challenge any sort of opposition thrown at them, will give 7/10 for Chennai Super Kings this time around after their performance against KKR.
Probable starting X1's -
