Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians

IPL has started with a bang and it gets even better when Delhi Daredevils meet Mumbai Indians at Ferozshah Kotla, Delhi. Its battle of the two most important and biggest cities in India, its a battle of Delhiwale vs Mumbaikar.

Both teams have had good IPL seasons in the previous versions but havent won the IPL so far and all eyes will be glued as the bets are on one of these teams to lift the IPL 2011 trophy. (especially Mumbai :D)

But skeptics believe that this year's Delhi Daredevils team is not as strong as it was before. As for Mumbai Indians, they have made very few changes in their line up with little additions in the IPL 2011 auctions. But nonetheless two hard hitting teams will battle it out at the Ferozshah Kotla for a good start to the IPL 2011 season.

Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils by far have the most explosive pair of openers compared to the other IPL 2011 teams. Virender Sehwag and David Warner are two hard hitting batsmen who can take the opposition out. And quite a lot rests on these two batsmen up-front to provide Delhi Daredevils a blazing start.

Many changes have occurred in the Delhi Daredevils team as well with Gautam Gambhir their in-form player going to Kolkatta Knight Riders. With the subtractions have come quite a few additions and Delhi middle order sees batsmen (all-rounders) in the form of Naman Ojha, Irfan Pathan and Van Der Merwe. Naman Ojha is the player on which Delhi Daredevils will depend heavily in the middle order if the front line batsmen fail to provide Delhi Daredevils a decent start.

And with the inclusion of Irfan Pathan from Kings Punjab X1, they have a allrounder who can take on the bowling in the the last few overs. But if Delhi lack somewhere very precisely, its their bowling. Yes T-20 is not about bowling but you need to have some good bowlers who can take wickets up-front.

Delhi Daredevils bowling options dont look impressive; Morne Morkel, Ajit Agarkar, Ashok Dinda and Rajesh Powar (former Mumbai Indians) dont form up a formidable line up which can threaten the opposition.

So in all, a team which rests heavily on their front line batsmen, will give 5/10 for Delhi Daredevils.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians as a team look fantastic on paper with great depth in batting and new additions that for sure will help them reach a huge score.

Sachin Tendulkar will definitely be high on morale after lifting the 2011 World Cup trophy and would love to carry on the same form he had in the World Cup. Mumbai Indians have added Andrew Symonds and Rohit Sharma (both former Deccan Chargers team-mates) to their batting line-up to toughen up the middle order which prove precise in the death overs.

Mumbai Indians are packed with fire power in their batting and in the form of Andrew Symonds and Keiron Pollard they have got by far the most destructive batsmen in the cricketing world.

If Mumbai Indians have got Sachin up front in their batting then they have got Malinga to open the bowling. Malinga also has had good run ins in the previous versions of IPL and has proved a huge success with the Mumbai Indians.

This time he will have Munaf Patel to open the bowling with, who was recruited from Rajasthan Royals. Munaf had taken in all 19 wickets for Royals in the previous IPL versions and Tendulkar will be hoping he will do the same for Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians have also recruited young Moses henriques who played with KKR last season and he along with Pollard will look to fill up the fifth bowler slot for Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians have a ACE in Harbhajan Singh whose main role so far has been bringing down the run rate rather than taking wickets, so his spell in the middle overs will also be crucial.

So with Malinga and Munaf to open the bowling followed by Dhaval Kulkarni and Harbhajan, Mumbai Indians do seem to have a good if not the best bowling line up as well.

This team surely seems to have worked out their strategy and looks good on paper as well, will give 8/10 for Mumbai Indians.
